Centre boys go winless

Despite a couple of close games, the Centre Cougars ended the pre-season tournament at Herington with three losses.
The closest game of the tournament was the opening one Dec. 9 against Herington. The two teams tied and swapped leads numerous times. In the end, Herington won, 50-48.
Centre led 39-35 as the fourth quarter opened. After expanding to a five-point lead, the Cougars started missing layups and free throws, allowing the Railroaders to catch up and tie the game. Dylan Deines then scored two consecutive field goals to give Centre a four-point lead.
With two-and-a-half minutes remaining, Srajer missed two free throws and Herington scored five points. Herington led by one point. Barney missed two free throws, and Herington missed a couple of free throws but made one, enough to finish with a two-point victory.
Leading scorers were Dakota Stimpson, 15, and Deines and Srajer, 10 each.
Southeast of Saline
Several Southeast of Saline players towered over Centre Friday, making it almost impossible to score and impossible not to foul. Centre lost, 81-27. Centre scorers were Nathaniel Engler and Justin Bina, 6 each; C.J, Thompson, 4; Jared Barney, 3; Cole Srajer and Cole Methvin, 2 each; and Cody Svoboda, 1.
Madison
Madison looked to be another tough one, but Centre hung in. After trailing 23-16 at halftime, the Cougars outscored Madison 12-3 in the third quarter to take a 28-26 lead. Nathaniel Engler made a free throw, Jared Barney drained a trey, and Stimpson scored 8 points.
However, they were outscored 21-15 in the fourth quarter, to lose by 4 points, 47-43.
Barney and Stimpson scored 13 points each.
