The Centre High School girls basketball team lost to Wakefield Friday at Centre, 42-29.
Cacey Simons scored a game-high 16 points and grabbed 9 rebounds to lead the Cougars.
Centre cut an 11-point deficit to 5 during the third quarter but was never able to get any closer. The Cougars were in an early hole, having only scored 9 points before halftime.
Coach Alan Stahlecker cites the turnover margin as the difference in the game; the Cougars committed 26 turnovers to Wakefield’s 17.
Flint Hills Christian
The 45-9 victory over Flint Hills Christian Jan. 25 perhaps was the easiest victory of the year for the Lady Cougars.
They led 28-4 at halftime and outscored Flint Hills 17-5 in the second half.
Shields and Simons scored 10 points each, Rudolph 8, Weber 7, and Miller and Simons 3 each.
There was no junior varsity game.
