CENTRE: Centre volleyball sweeps Hope triangular

The Lady Cougars improved their record to 5-7 Thursday by defeating Hope and Solomon in a triangular at Hope, but it took three games per match to do it.

They defeated Solomon 25-17, 21-15, and 25-15. Bryanna Svoboda led scoring with 14 points, followed by Amanda Floyd with 10. Svoboda had four aces, Floyd three, and Allison Shields one.

The team’s serving percentage was excellent, losing two of 69 serves. Genesis Rudolph succeeded in setting the ball 14 of 15 attempts, three for kills. Tori Marler was 37 of 46, five for kills.

Ellie Miller and Anna Weber were perfect at the net, both completing 10 of 10 spike attempts. Svoboda completed 10 of 13. Shields led with 18 of 20 attempts including eight kills.

Hope

Shields led scoring against Hope with 10 points. Other scorers were Svoboda 7, Rudolph 6, Floyd 5, Marler 3, and Cacey Simons 2. Shields had four aces and Marler had one.

Simons was 13 of 13 in spike attempts and had two kills and one block. Shields was 23 of 30 with eight kills. Weber was 11 of 11 with four kills. Other spikers were Miller eight of 11 with four kills, and Svoboda seven of nine with two kills.

The junior varsity defeated Hope, 25-16 and 25-15. They lost to Solomon in two close games, 21-25 and 22-25.

The Lady Cougars played in the Marion Invitational Tournament Saturday and hosted a triangular meet Tuesday. They will participate Saturday in the Herington Invitational.
