CENTRE: CJHS girls basketball

The Centre Junior High School girls’ A-team earned its second victory of the season in a 31-9 home game Dec. 8 against White City.

The outcome never was in doubt as the Lady Cougars led 17-5 at halftime and added 14 points, compared to four, by White City in the second half.

Cacey Simons led Centre with 10 points, followed by Anna Weber with six. Other scorers were: Ellie Miller three, and Bryanna Svoboda, Makenzie Deines, Amy Makovec, Carrie Carlson, Mikayla Antoszyk, and Genesis Rudolph two each.

The B-team defeated White City, 30-2. Rudolph scored 12 points, Rebekah Basore and Deines six each, Amy Makovec four, and Kaylenn Miller two.

Centre vs. Luckey

The teams traveled to Manhattan Thursday to play at Luckey Junior High School.

The A-team was defeated, 45-33. Despite the loss, Simons had an excellent game, scoring 18 points.

Luckey took a devastating 17-3 lead in the first quarter, making it almost impossible for Centre to come back. A free throw by Carlson and field goal by Antoszyk accounted for Centre’s three points.

Simons stepped up in the second quarter to score 10 points, six of those from the free-throw line. Deines scored three points for the Lady Cougars, narrowing the gap to nine, 25-16, at halftime.

Simons made two field goals and Svoboda and Weber each made one field goal in the third quarter, matching the eight points made by Luckey.

Simons scored four more points in the final quarter. Weber made a free throw and Antoszyk and Rudolph each had a basket. Luckey outscored Centre 12-9 to finish with a 12-point victory.

Centre’s record now is 4-2.

The B-team defeated Luckey, 29-16. Rudolph was Centre’s leading scorer with 11 points, followed by Makovec with eight.

Other scorers were Kylie Beeler four points, and Rebeckah Basore, Deines, and Antoszyk two each.
