Playing on the road Friday against Lebo, the Cougars gave the Bulldogs a real battle, at least for three quarters.
During that time, Centre held its own, tying in the first quarter, 21-21, and leading by 1 point at halftime 36-35. The two teams were tied again at the end of the third quarter, 53-53.
Lebo poured it on in the fourth quarter, scoring 27 points compared with 13 by Centre, to win by 9 points, 75-66.
“We played a good game and battled to the end,” Coach Greg Wyatt said. “Except for a 2-minute stretch in the fourth quarter, we were doing what we had to in order to win the game.”
Trevor Troutt scored 21 of his 27 points in the first three quarters, leading all scorers. Troutt also led at the boards with 10 rebounds.
The Cougars were 10-of-23 at the free-throw line.
“Free throws have made the difference in us being 10-6 rather than 14-2 right now,” Wyatt said. “We need to keep playing hard, stay focused on the big picture, and continue working to get better.”
