Centre Cougars bested by Little River, 70-51

The Centre Cougars found themselves up against strong, aggressive players Jan. 14 at Little River. They were defeated 70-51.
Conner Montgomery, Kyle Methvin, and Chad Mueller made baskets in the first quarter. Grant Srajer and Montgomery each had a free throw. Centre trailed, 12-8, at the end of the quarter.
Ty Simons scored seven of Centre’s 15 points in the second quarter. Dakota Stimpson made a 3-pointer, Montgomery made a basket, and Methvin made three free throws. Little River scored 20 points and led 32-22 at halftime.
Jared Barney and Simons each made a 3-pointer in the third quarter, and Simons, Stimpson, and Nathaniel Engler made baskets for a total of 18 points, but once again Little River outscored Centre with 23 points.
The Cougars outscored Little River 18-15 in the fourth quarter on good shooting by Simons, Mueller, Engler, and Stimpson, but walked away with an 11-point loss.
Scoring in double figures for Centre were Simons, 22, and Stimpson, 10. Other scorers were Srajer, l; Mueller, 4; Montgomery, 5; Engler, 7; Barney, 3, and Methvin, 7.
Simons had 11 rebounds, and Montgomery and Stimpson each had four assists.
Tuesday
The Cougars defeated Wakefield 62-53 Tuesday in the Centre Cougar Classic. Centre will play Flint Hills Job Corps Friday.
