Cougars finish first in golf

The Centre golf team participated in a nine-hole golf tournament Thursday at Council Grove. Centre took two teams to participate in the 10-team field. Centre’s No. 1 team finished first followed by the No. 2 team in third place.

Freshman Dylan Svitak won the event with a score of 42. Adam Matz placed second, Tyler Klenda finished third, and Jacob Jennings finished sixth.

Rolling Meadows

The Centre High School golf team finished first out of 16 teams April 27 at the St. Mary’s Golf Invitational at Rolling Meadows. Centre was the only 1A school in the tournament, playing against 2A, 3A, and 4A competition. Centre finished one stroke ahead of Jefferson West and two strokes ahead of Holton.

Three Cougars also won individual medals: Matz placed third with a round of 78, Heath Hill placed seventh with a round of 80, and Klenda placed 16th with a round of 84.

Centre played at Marion on Tuesday. The Cougars will be back in Marion Friday for the Marion County 36 Hole Meet in Marion and Hillsboro.
