Centre Cougars play short game

Centre played Hartford on the road Friday and won, 54-6.

Hartford’s only touchdown came in the first quarter after Centre had jumped to a 20-0 lead.

The Cougars scored once more in the first quarter. The 45-point rule kicked in at 6:09 in the second quarter after three more Centre touchdowns and a lead of 48 points.

The game was the first in district play.

Three touchdowns were scored by Xavier Espinoza on passes from Braxton Smith. Smith scored on three quarterback keepers, and Jensen Riffel and Aidan Svoboda each ran for a touchdown. Svoboda and Smith added conversion points.

Smith led the Cougars, rushing for 88 yards and throwing for 220 yards. Espinoza had five receptions for 207 yards.
