Centre day care director fired

Staff writer

The board of education of the Centre school district abruptly fired day care director Janine Foth for undisclosed reasons last week.

The board called a special meeting with two closed-door sessions – the first to discuss “employee performance,” the second “relating to actions adversely or favorably affecting a student.”

After 15 minutes, the board returned to open session and voted 7-0 to “terminate the employment of Janine Foth  immediately,” according to minutes of the meeting.

The other session was closed for privacy reasons, the minutes said, and lasted only about 10 minutes, with the board taking no action.

“The student and personnel executive sessions were not related, hence the reason for two separate meetings,” Superintendent Daniel Ackland said in an email.

A letter from Ackland informed day-care families of Foth’s termination, and announced the appointment of Erika Rodriguez, previously listed as staff support, as interim director while a search for a new head is made.

The superintendent,  himself, was working in the short staffed day care facility on Wednesday.
