Staff writer

Centre FFA freshman Grace Knepp placed third among 400 participants at the South Central District Greenhand Conference Sept. 21 at Buhler. Other freshmen who attended were Tyson Chizek, Makayla Forichette, Kayla Gosnell, Haley Meyer, Kyle Naerebout, Tori Reneau, Athena Salamone, Mickey Spohn, Destiny Wangerin, and Tanner Wiggans.

The chapter hosted the annual James Weber Memorial Fishing Derby Sept. 19 in Herington. Fourteen youth were assisted by Adam Makovec, Dylan Deines, Greg Oborny, Zach Barney, Max Svoboda, and Kyle Naerebout. They caught 59 fish in two hours.

In the 6-to-9-year-old group, Allie Stuchlik caught the most fish with 12, and Aidan Tibodeau caught the largest fish, a 16-inch catfish. In the 10-12-year-old group, Tanner Stuchlik caught 11 fish, and Anthony Potocnik caught a 15-inch bass.

At least 28 members attended the Kansas State Fair Sept. 16 and assisted in the Agri-Land, KS Ag Ed, and FFA booths. They assisted in hands-on activities for children such as feeling different types of grains, riding in a simulated combine, and milking a cow.

Hannah Peterson and Haley Rudolph received third place for a picnic table they submitted for the Agriculture Mechanics Class Welding Skills competition at the fair. The girls constructed the table of metal and wood last spring and finished it this fall in the Ag Mechanics class.

Several members picked up trash along their Adopt-A-Highway section of US-56/77 on Sept. 13. Later, they enjoyed games and tacos.
