The Centre girls’ basketball team has its sights set on a third consecutive trip to the state tournament. With a record of 17-3, they are seeded first in the substate tournament at Hartford and had a bye Monday in the first round. They will play Hartford (4-17) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The Lady Cougars defeated Peabody-Burns and Solomon last week, ending the season with three victories.
The makeup game Thursday at home against Solomon was no sweat. The Lady Cougars raced to a 26-10 lead after one quarter and never looked back. They won, 67-35.
Cacey Simons had an outstanding game, scoring 27 points including nine three-pointers, two two-point goals, and three of four free throws. Makenzie Deines scored 12 points and Shelby Makovec had 10.
Other scorers were Amy Makovec, 6; Bryanna Svoboda, 5; Brenna Shields, 3; and Shelby Pankratz and Ally Basore, 2 each.
Peabody-Burns
The team defeated Peabody-Burns Feb. 25 on the road, 62-23.
Centre was hot from beyond the arc in the first half. Simons, Amy Makovec, Shelby Makovec, and Shelby Pankratz combined for nine treys, leaving the Lady Warriors in the dust, 42-15.
Peabody-Burns added just 8 points in the second half while Centre added 20 for an easy victory.
