Centre girls hang on for win

The Centre High School girls’ basketball team had an explosive start Friday in a home game against White City.

Centre led 20-5 after Cacey Simons made four treys, Bryanna Svoboda and Shelby Makovec made one each, and Mekenzie Deines made a layup.

White City attempted a comeback in the second quarter, outscoring Centre 14-6, but Centre led 26-19 at halftime.

Centre expanded its lead in the third quarter. Makovec scored 7 points, Svoboda 5, and Simons 6, to give Centre a 15-point lead. White City outscored Centre in the fourth quarter, 13-10, but Centre won, 54-42.

Simons scored 20 points, and Svoboda and Makovec had 12 points each. Other scorers were Deines, 4; Beka Basore, 4; and Genesis Rudolph, 2.
