Centre girls lose to Southeast of Saline

Facing a 3A team Friday in their first game of the season, the Centre Lady Cougars were defeated, 54-35.

The Lady Trojans of Southeast of Saline led 20-11 at the end of the first quarter and continued to build their lead as the game progressed.

The third quarter was the best one for Centre. The girls outscored Southeast, 11-9.

Carlye Simons was the leading scorer for Centre, with 14 points including six field goals and 2-of-4 free throws. Other scorers were Josie Peterson and DJ Turner, 5 each; Shelby Deines, 4; Samantha Seifert, 3; and Allison Shields and Theo Kassebaum, 2 each.

The girls will play in the Herington Invitational Tournament at 6:45 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

The junior varsity was defeated, 41-19. Ellie Miller led scoring with 8 points.
