The Centre Junior High Cougars put on a good show Thursday for the home crowd by defeating Flint Hills of Manhattan, 36-14.

Centre piled up all of its points in the first three quarters, and Flint Hills scored its 14 points in the fourth quarter.

Quarterback Justin Deines scored the first touchdown on a nine-yard run. The conversion attempt failed.

In the second quarter, Kyle Methvin caught a 23-yard pass for the touchdown and received another pass for the extra points.

Kendall Harding caught a 23-yard pass from Deines for the third touchdown of the night. The conversion attempt failed, but the Cougars led at halftime, 20-0.

Methvin caught a 37-yard pass from Harding in the third quarter and Houston Svoboda completed the two-point conversion.

Svoboda returned a Flint Hills punt 30 yards for the Cougars’ final touchdown. Harding ran for the extra points, and the Cougars led 36-0.

Flint Hills garnered 14 points in the final quarter and Centre failed to score, but the Cougars walked away with a satisfying 22-point win.

Centre compiled 149 yards rushing on 31 carries compared to 121 yards on 20 carries by Flint Hills.

Harding was Centre’s leading rusher with 14 carries for 129 yards. Other rushers were: Wyatt 5-30, Deines 6-(-)15, Svoboda 2-3, and Methvin 4-7.

Deines threw four completed passes for 59 yards, and Harding threw one for 37 yards.

Methvin was leading receiver with two catches for 50 yards. Harding had three receptions for 36 yards.

Dylan Svitak led defensively with five solo tackles and two assists. Harding had four tackles and one assist.

Other tacklers were: Ty Simons 1-0, Deines 2-0, Chad Mueller 0-3, Mickey Brubacker 0-1, Kodey Johnson 1-2, Braden Pagenkopf 0-4, Nick Salamone 1-1, Svoboda 0-2, Wyatt 2-1, Methvin 2-4, and Terren Thompson 1-0.
