The Centre High School junior varsity football team rolled over Goessel Sept. 8 on the road, handily defeating the Bluebirds, 66-20.
The Cougars scored four touchdowns in the first quarter, four in the second, and one in the third before the game was called based on the 45-point rule.
Tanner Brunner led the way with a 58-yard kick return for a touchdown, followed by a 53-yard run for a touchdown by Rustyn Kerbs.
Brunner scored three more touchdowns, Kerbs one, Kordell Harding one, Casey Kristek one, and Nathan Barney one.
Cole Svoboda, Brian Burhoop, Alex Hajek, and Barney each scored extra points.
Centre played a ground game, carrying the ball 21 times for 220 yards. Goessel relied on passing, totaling just 13 carries for 14 yards but connecting on 10 of 13 passes for 179 yards.
Kerbs was leading rusher, with five carries for 102 yards. Brunner had eight carries for 92 yards.
Hajek led defensively, with four unassisted and four assisted tackles. Other tacklers were: Svoboda 1-3, Savik Howard 0-3, Seth Stroda 0-1, Benjamin Wirtz 1-5 and a fumble recovery, Shane Methvin 0-2, Quentin Wacker 2-2, Kerbs 1-2, Barney 3-0, Jacob Jennings 0-2 plus an interception, Harding 2-4, Brunner 4-2, Burhoop 0-1. Casey Kristek had one interception.
