The Centre High School volleyball team finished 0-2 in a triangular Sept. 7 at Elyria Christian School but could just as easily have finished 1-1. The contest with Elyria was intense and resulted in two narrow losses, 24-26 and 27-29.
The team completed 48 of 52 serves. Tori Marler was the leading server with 6 points, followed by Allison Shields with 5. Other scorers were Genesis Rudolph 3, Anna Weber 2, Bryanna Svoboda 3, and Amanda Floyd 1.
Six players delivered spikes at the net: Weber was 6-of-6, Ellie Miller 2-of-3, Cacey Simons 4-of-5, Shields 9-of-11, Svoboda 3-of-5, and Beka Basore 3-of-3. Weber also had two blocks.
In setting, Marler was 18-of-25 and Rudolph was 14-of-15.
Goessel
Centre lost to Goessel in three games, 20-25, 25-20, and 9-25. The Lady Cougars were almost perfect in serving, failing to deliver only two of 55 serves.
Svoboda garnered 11 points, followed by Weber with 6. Other scorers were Rudolph 5, Marler 3, and Shields 3.
Shields led at the net, successfully delivering 16 of 20 spike attempts and seven kills. Weber had four blocks.
Marler completed 24 of 28 setting attempts, eight resulting in kills. Rudolph was 11 of 15, one for a kill.
Svoboda had four individual aces followed by Weber two, Shields two, and Marler one.
The varsity finished with a record of 1-4 on the year.
The junior varsity swept their opponents, defeating Goessel, 25-8 and 25-22, and Elyria, 25-10 and 25-21.
Scorers were Beka Basore 14, Theo Kassebaum 12, Amy Makovec 11, Carrie Carlson 10, Brianna Alvarez 6, and Cassandra Dones 6.
The Lady Cougars play Saturday in an invitational tournament at Marion.
