Carlye Simons scores 27 points against Solomon

It was another bad week for the Centre girls basketball team as they lost games to Madison and Solomon.
Playing Friday at Solomon, the girls were defeated, 58-43. Despite outstanding scoring by Carlye Simons, who scored 27 points, the team was plagued by turnovers. They trailed 34-19 at halftime and 53-28 after three quarters.
They did better in the fourth quarter, scoring 15 points compared with 5 by Solomon, but finished with a 13-point deficit.
Most of Simon’s points were earned at the free-throw line, where she completed 14-of-16 attempts. Other scorers were Shelby Deines, 9, and Allison Shields, 7.
The junior varsity had a closer contest. They lost by one point, 30-29. Ellie Miller scored 11 points. Other scorers were Genesis Rudolph, 5; Beka Basore, 4; Katie Remy, 3; and Amanda Floyd, Mikayla Antoszyk, and Anna Weber, 2 each.
In a non-league game Feb. 9, the girls faced 2A Madison, a team ranked 10th in the state.
The Lady Cougars were overwhelmed from the start and trailed by 17 points at halftime. They were defeated, 65-35.
Simons was lead scorer with 8 points. Other scorers were Shields, 7; Deines, 6; Josie Peterson, 5; Miller, 4; Ripley Howard, 3; and Theo Kassebaum, 2.
In a two-quarter game, the junior varsity was defeated, 27-14. Kassebaum led scoring with 5 points. Other scorers were Basore, 4; Miller, 3; and Rudolph, 2.
