Centre plans unique prom location

Staff writer

Centre High School juniors and seniors and their dates will be bused to Camp Wood Saturday for their banquet, prom, and after-prom activities. The facility is a 600-acre YMCA camp two miles from Elmdale in the Flint Hills.

The promenade will be at 4:30 p.m. at the high school, after which all students and their dates will board two chartered buses for the trip to Camp Wood.

The camp chef and staff will prepare the meal, which will include brisket, vegetables, and dessert.

Several CHS sophomores will be servers.

Complete Music of Manhattan will provide music for the dance following the supper.

According to junior class sponsor Janis Peterson, the juniors have raised more than $4,000 from fundraising events during their high school years to fund the unique setting.

They will decorate the facility with a “Duck Dynasty” theme, creating an outdoors effect using greens, golds, and beiges.

After-prom activities will include games, a climbing tower, movies, and snack food.

The event will end with a bus ride back to the school early Sunday morning.
