Centre pursues baseball options

Staff writer

Centre does not have a baseball team, but after some parents reported their children’s desire to play high school baseball, the school board voted Monday for athletic director Tim Vinduska to explore the possibilities.

The program would have to be in cooperation with other schools.

In other action Monday board approved after-prom transportation to Marion Sports and Aquatic Center on April 22.

The board accepted the resignation of Karen Nickel as sixth through eighth-grade English teacher, effective at the end of the school year.

Other resignations included Phil Duerksen as assistant boys basketball coach and Kim Kroupa as high school cheer coach. Kroupa will be replaced by Katelyn Hagemann.

The board accepted a new four-year IServe contract.

The district continues to wait on approval from Federal Emergency Management Agency for an $800,000 grant before awarding contracts for a building project. A decision is expected in May.

In executive session, the board made updates to the district’s crisis plan.

The next meeting will be 7 p.m. May 8.
