Centre’s two Scholars Bowl teams brought home medals Nov. 16 when they placed second and third in a competition at Andover.
“The interesting match was the first round of the championships when they played each other,” coach Cindy Wyatt said. “Centre A won by one question.”
The A team of Ally Basore, Whitney Gutsch, Carissa Shields, and Kristin Vinduska finished 4-1 in pool play. They defeated Goessel, 50-40; Trinity, 85-minus 5; Rose Hill, 70-40; and McPherson, 30-5. They lost to Wichita North, 60-70.
The B team of Ryan August, Kate Basore, Greg Oborny, Cole Srajer, and Max Svoboda also finished 4-1 in pool play. They defeated Derby, 80-10; Wichita North B, 60-30; Salina C, 55-40; and Pratt, 80-30. They lost to Maize South, 20-90.
In round one of the championship, Centre A defeated Centre B, 50-40, but lost to Maize South, 80-40, in round two to place second. Centre B defeated Goessel, 65-15, in the second round for third place.
The high scorer for Centre was Ally Basore, 180. Other high scorers were Svoboda, 130, and Gutsch, 110.
