The Centre High School scholars’ bowl team placed third in the Class 1A-Division 1 state tournament Saturday at LeRoy High School.
The Cougars began pool play with a 40-20 loss to Rock Hills, but followed that up with victories over Satanta, 40-30, and Burrton, 110-30. They lost a match to South Gray, 50-30, and finished pool play with a victory over Hanover, 40-20.
Their 3-2 pool play record placed them third in Pool A, good enough to advance to the championship rounds.
The Cougars rattled off three consecutive victories to begin the championship rounds, defeating Bucklin, 40-10, Central, 30-20, and avenging their earlier loss to South Gray, 30-20.
They finished the tournament with back-to-back losses to Satanta, 30-5, and Goessel, 50-40. The Cougars’ 3-2 record in the championship rounds earned them the third-place trophy.
Team members were Theo Kassebaum, Tom Oborny, Michal Baumgartner, Amy Makovec, Bessie Yang, and alternate Nastya Lesnikova.
