Centre scholars win regionals, advance to state

Meet is Saturday in LeRoy

The Centre High School scholars’ bowl team placed first at regionals Thursday in Goessel.

In pool play, the Cougars defeated Pretty Prairie, 70-40; Little River, 90-20; Rosalia, 55-20; and B&B, 80-10. Their lone loss of pool play was against White City, 60-30.

In the championship pool play round, they defeated Goessel, 70-40; Burrton, 55-20; Centralia, 65-20; and avenged their earlier loss against White City, winning 40-30. They lost to Baileyville, 40-35, but their 4-1 record was enough to secure the championship.

The team consisted of Chi Do, Jacob Jirak, Theo Kassebaum, Tyler Klenda, Tom Oborny, and alternate Carrie Carlson.

The state 1A Division 1 championship meet is Saturday at Southern Coffey County High School in LeRoy. This is the first year class 1A has been separated in two divisions.
