CENTRE: Senior look ahead at CHS commencement

Staff writer

In a creative twist Sunday at Centre High School commencement exercises, seniors presented a video titled, “2060: Senior Citizens Café.”

It depicted three people (Carlye Simons, Shelby Deines, and Quentin Wacker), sitting around a table in a café in 2060, discussing their upcoming 50th class reunion and reminiscing about their time as seniors at Centre High School.

The presentation brought laughs from the audience as these “senior citizens” shared memories of their teachers, office secretaries, and principal. Their conversation was interspersed with musical phrases that characterized the individuals.

Simons and Deines presented a video highlighting the members of the Class of 2010.

The junior/senior band provided fanfare, processional, and recessional, and the high school choir sang, “The Road Less Traveled.”

Josie Peterson addressed her class, tracing its history from kindergarten through 12th grade. She noted that life is a continuous “graduation,” a gradual change from one learning experience to another.

Of the 16 seniors who received high school diplomas, 13 plan to continue their formal education — five at vocational/technical schools, two at community colleges, and six at universities. Two plan to work on the family farm, and one plans to get a job.

“This class represents a group of students who were involved — movers and shakers,” Superintendent Jerri Kemble said.
