Centre students keep
an artful eye out

Centre’s gymnasium became a gallery as over 300 pieces of art from 30 young students were displayed Friday at the school’s Artful Eye Show.
The show features works by pupils in grades three through five. They spent 10 months creating the pieces.
It took three days for Jessica Gilbert and Marion County Record columnist Pat Wick to put everything up for display.
The show is judged each year by an area artist; this year, it was Dennis Medina of Abilene, a former museum curator.
Medina distributed first, second, and third-place ribbons in each artistic category.
Each grade also received gold, silver, and bronze medals for its top artists.
A fifth-grader was named Artist of the Year by Wick. She combed through three years of artistic output to look at the student’s skill level, amount of finished projects, and how well the student was able to work solo.
This year’s winner was Canon Schafer of Tampa.
Awards were followed by a reception catered by Marissa Makovec, who baked more than 360 cookies for the event.
