Centre sweeps Peabody

The Cougars swept the Warriors this season, winning Friday’s homecoming game 56-47.
“This game was a battle,” Centre coach Richard Idleman said. “Many played a big role in this win.”
Robert Spohn led Centre with 14 points, seven rebounds, and one assist. Dane Meier backed him up with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Santiago Knepp finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists.
“This was a solid team win,” Idleman said. “Very pleased with the team’s overall play,”
Centre (3-14) will be at home Friday against Chase County (11-6) in the Cougars’ last game of the season before regionals.
Peabody-Burns (2-14) will be on the road against St. Xavier (2-10) for the Warriors’ last regular-season game.
Hillsboro
Lincoln Wichert’s 17 points led the Trojans to a 58-46 victory Friday night over Halstead.
Seth Driggers and Noah Beavers each scored 10.
Nash Dickinson was hot beyond the arc, making three of five attempts for a three-pointer.
“We were able to pull off a 12-point win against Halstead mainly by our ability to score inside,” coach Kyle Kroeker said. “We were also able to get some timely steals for layups that gave us a boost in the second half.
“We continue to have contributions from a lot of guys to lead us to victory. That is what we will continue to focus on going forward.”
Hillsboro (9-7) will be on the road Friday against Lyons (7-10) but first will face Pratt (13-3) Thursday.
Marion
The Warriors lost 63-27 to a tough Ell-Saline team Friday but rebounded on the road Monday, defeating Inman 38-30 in a makeup game that broke a three-game losing streak.
Marion (8-9) will be back on the road Friday to try to get revenge against Elyria Christian (17-1).
Goessel
For the second week in a row, the Bluebirds played three games in one week.
Elyria Christian dominated the first game a week ago Tuesday, Goessel lost to Canton-Galva on Thursday, but the Bluebirds rebounded and defeated Herington on Saturday.
Against the Eagles on Thursday, Goessel trailed by 12 late in the third quarter. Baskets by Noah Schrag and Chevy Gagnon cut the deficit to seven as the fourth quarter began.
Jack Nickel scored nine in the fourth quarter as the Bluebirds got within four points several times, but Canton-Galva turned back the Goessel rally, and the Eagles won, 45-38.
Jack Nickel led the Bluebirds with 13 points, followed by Noah Schrag with 12.
At homecoming Friday, Goessel jumped out to a 16-6 lead at the end of the first quarter, but turnovers allowed the Railers to score 11 consecutive points to cut the lead to 18-17.
Seven points from Noah Schrag prevented the Railers from taking the lead, and the Bluebirds went into halftime leading 25-22.
Jake Flaming, Koy Smith, and Wade Spurlin scored to begin the third quarter and pushed the lead back to 10 points, but the Railers chipped away and tied the game at 39 with less than three minutes remaining.
The last six points came from the free throw line as Goessel held on to win 50-45.
Noah Schrag led the team with 22 points. Koy Smith added 9; Jack Nickel, 8; and Wade Spurlin, 7.
The Bluebirds (8-9)have three non-league games to finish this season and will be at Wichita Central Christian Academy on Friday.
