Centre teachers get $665 pay raise

Staff writer

At a special meeting May 27, the Centre school board approved a 2 percent pay raise for teachers for the 2014-15 school year, an increase of $665 per teacher.

The increase sets the base salary at $33,950 and the top salary at $47,010.

The board also approved a supplemental duty pay schedule that includes a total compensation of $1,019 for monitors of the summer weights program.

The board hired Cherie Trieb of Wamego as an agriculture teacher for the next school year. The action came after members spent an hour in closed session to discuss personnel. In addition to her regular pay, Trieb will be compensated for 20 additional days of work for FFA events outside of the regular school year.

Trieb is a native of Indiana, where she acquired a bachelor’s degree in agriculture education from Purdue University and taught vocational agriculture for one year. She also has a master’s degree in counseling. She has been a 4-H leader for more than 36 years.
