Centre track competes at Barton County meet

The cancellation of the track meet in Marion on April 23 was the third of Centre’s scheduled track meets to be canceled over a 15-day period and not rescheduled. The full squad has participated in just three track meets so far this season.

A last-minute invitation allowed the team to participate in a high school track meet Friday in Great Bend, sponsored by Barton County Community College. Teams included Phillipsburg, Solomon, Little River, St. John, Central Plains, Larned, Centre, and Wilson.

Top Centre finishers included Ty Simons, second in 110-meter hurdles; Cacey Simons, second in high jump; Shelby Makovec, second in the 3,200; and Brenna Shields, second in the 400.

Boys’ team

Ty Simons — 2. 110m hurdles, 17.12; 3. 300m hurdles, 45.71.

Justin Deines — 5. Javelin, 132-6.

Girls’ team

Cacey Simons — 2. High jump, 4-8.

Shelby Makovec — 2. 3200, 14:46.31.
