Girls take 2nd, boys get 5th

The Centre girls’ track team finished in second place behind Berean Academy April 28 in a home meet held at Herington High School.
Amanda Salamone and Brenna Shields led the team with first-place finishes, Salamone in high jump at 4 feet, and Shields in the 100 at 13.8 seconds.
Shields finished second in the 400 and long jump. The 4x800-relay team of Lotti Benning, Nellie Kassebaum, Callie Riffel, and Shelby Makovec also placed second.
Finishing in third place were Kassebaum in the 800, Summer Espinoza in shot put, and Kate Basore in javelin.
Conner Montgomery and Max Svoboda led the boys’ team with second-place finishes, Montgomery in the 400 and Svoboda in the 200.
Third-place finishers included Montgomery in the 100, Barrett Smith in javelin, and the boys’ 4x100-relay team of Svoboda, Brendon Bina, Cody Svoboda, and Montgomery.
The boys’ team finished in fifth place.
