Centre’s archrival Rural Vista wasn’t much of a rival Friday as the Cougars easily defeated the Heat, 48-0.
Seniors Xavier Espinoza and Kyle Naerebout played their last regular season high school football game on Bud Peterson Field.
Rural Vista wasn’t able to do much on either side of the ball. Centre led 34-0 after one quarter and put the game away at 6:40 in the second quarter when a 48-0 lead triggered the 45-point rule.
Centre played a ground game, outrushing Rural Vista 266-7.
Espinoza had a 50-yard punt return for Centre’s first touchdown, and Aiden Svoboda ran for the conversion.
Espinoza scored the next two touchdowns with 28 and 15-yard runs. Jensen Riffel made a touchdown on a 42-yard run, and Svoboda had a 15-yard touchdown run as the first quarter ended.
Second quarter touchdowns were made on runs by Svoboda and Lane Methvin.
Riffel was leading rusher with nine carries for 117 yards. Espinoza had four carries for 57 yards, Svoboda five for 53, Methvin three for 27, and Luke Hudson four for 12.
Centre now is 3-1 in district play. The Cougars’ final district game is Friday against Marias de Cygnes on the road.
