It was a breath of fresh air Sept. 30 for the Centre High School volleyball team to compete again with schools on its own level.
After a tough 0-3 finish the previous Saturday at the Herington Invitational, they defeated St. Xavier and Wichita Sunrise Christian School in a triangular at Wichita.

Allison Shields served for a total of 11 points, including four aces. She was followed by Amanda Floyd with eight points.
Leann Pankratz set the ball 16 of 17 attempts, three for a kill. She also led at the net with 14 successful spikes of 16 attempts, and eight kills.
The match against Wichita Sunrise appeared to be a sure win when the girls won the first game, 25-14. But Wichita Sunrise came back to win the second game, 25-19.
The third game was competitive with Centre pulling out a 25-20 win for the match.
Shelby Deines led scoring with 16 total points and five aces. Bridgette Burns delivered 29 of 31 spike attempts and had eight kills.
The team’s record improved to 8-12. The Eisenhower League Tournament will be Saturday at Solomon after a triangular this past Tuesday at Elyria Christian.
The junior varsity played a match against Sunrise, losing in two games, 13-25, and 10-25.
