Centre volleyball goes 3-2 on week

Centre swept a triangular Sept. 23 at Wakefield by defeating Peabody, 25-12 and 25-11 and Wakefield, 25-16 and 25-19.
The results at Saturday’s Herington invitational weren’t as good. Centre was eliminated after finishing 1-2 in pool play.
They dropped the first game against Herington, 15-25, then turned around and defeated Herington, 25-12. The bottom dropped out in the third game, as Centre lost 6-25, their worst loss of the tournament.
Summer Espinoza served for 11 points and completed 16-of-18 spike attempts at the net. Shelby Pankratz was 16-of-17 and Brenna Shields was 14-of-17.
Centre then played Canton-Galva, dropping the first game, 14-25. However, they stepped up and won the next two games and the match with scores of 25-20 and 27-25.
Shields served for 9 points and was 18-of-25 at the net. Carlotta Benning had 3 blocks.
Their toughest match of the day was against Council Grove. They played surprisingly well in the first game. They tied the game at 24 before Council Grove scored the next two points to win the game.
In the second game, the Lady Cougars got as close as 17-19 before losing 18-25.
Espinoza served for 5 points and was 13-of-14 at the net, including 2 kills. Kate Basore had 2 blocks.
At the end of the day, Centre’s record stood at 8-10. Centre played two home matches Tuesday against Rural Vista and Little River. The results of those matches were not obtained as of press time.
