Centre volleyball loses at sub-state

The Centre volleyball team had a bye Saturday in the first round of the sub-state tournament at Hartford.
They played Rural Vista in round two and almost pulled off a victory in the second set after losing 25-14 in the first. They lost 25-23 to lose the match and end their season.
It was the last match for seniors Brenna Shields, Kailyn and Callie Riffel, and Shelby Makovec.
Summer Espinoza led at the net, completing 13-of-19 spike attempts, including 5 kills. Shields was 9-of-14, with 4 kills. Other spikers were Carlotta Benning, 5-of-6, with 1 kill; Shelby Pankratz, 6-of-7, with 3 kills; Makovec 2-of-2, with 2 kills; and Kate Basore, 1-of-3.
Pankratz set the ball a perfect 9-of-9, one for a kill. Makovec was 41-of-44, with 12 kills, and Espinoza was 3-of-3, with 1 kill. Espinoza had 2 aces, and Makovec had 1.
The team ended the season with a record of 15-14.
