Change coming to state's 1A basketball classification

The 1A school classifications in Kansas high school basketball will change next school year.

Right now, all 1A schools are in one group. All teams participate in a regional tournament, and the top two go on to sub-state.

Centre principal Donald Raymer said there are 117 schools in 1A, with enrollment ranging from 108 to 14.

Starting next fall, 1A will be divided into two groups: Division I and Division II. Regional tournaments will be eliminated, and all teams will compete in sub-state tournaments. The champions will go on to the state tournament.
