Chiefs mascot appears at Centre

Even before the Kansas City Chiefs clinched a spot in the NFL playoffs this weekend, the team was securing a spot in the hearts of Centre students.

Dan Meers, the man who portrays Chiefs mascot KC Wolf, gave a presentation and mingled with students earlier this month, at one point removing his suit and inviting third-grader Bryan Barrell to don it. The jersey was so long that Bryan didn’t need to put on the trousers.

Meers, 48, previously played Truman Tiger at the University of Missouri and Fredbird for the St. Louis Cardinals. He is in his 26th year as KC Wolf.

“Hanging out with students is the favorite part of my job,” he said after his presentation, which focused on attitude, behavior, and character:

“Your life is like a coin,” he said. “You get to spend it only once. Bad company corrupts character.“Good choices have good consequences, and bad choices have bad consequences. Spend that coin wisely.”
