A dark-complected male attempted to abduct a 12-year-old girl at the Ramona park Sunday, according Marion County Sheriff Robert Craft.
Around 5 p.m. on Sunday, the girl was playing at the park when a man driving a black newer model Ford Mustang pulled up. The driver told the girl her mother had sent him to pick her up.
The girl said, “I doubt that.”
The driver again told the girl to get in his car because her mother had told him to pick her up. The girl asked him what her mother’s name was, and he did not know. She then ran from the suspect, went home, and told her mother.
The suspect’s vehicle was described as a newer model black mustang with a large red wolf emblem across the back window. The words “Hide Me” are below the emblem on the back window. Tag information was not available.
The suspect is described as a dark-complected male of unknown race wearing a red and black camouflage patterned hat. The 12-year-old stated that he had a large black scab or mole on his right cheek.
Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department and Herington Police Department were immediately contacted and reports were sent to Dickinson, McPherson, Saline, and Morris Counties.
Marion County Undersheriff David Huntley said the department had no success in locating a suspect yet, but is continuing to investigate.
He said this was a good time for parents to talk with their children about basic rules of safety.
“Children should not talk to strangers and the minute they feel like something is wrong, they should run away,” he said.
“We are a county of small towns which means everybody knows everybody,” he said. “Run to someone you know, get somewhere safe if a stranger ever bothers you.”
