Chingawassa announces its country music lineup

Josh Abbott Band, a seven-member Texas country band originally from Lubbock, will be Saturday’s headliner June 7 at Chingawassa Days in Marion’s Central Park.

The band’s top singles on Billboard’s “Hot Country” chart were “Touch” (peaking at 41st in 2012); “Oh, Tonight” with Kacey Musgraves (44th in 2011); “Hangin’ Around” (44th in 2014), “Amnesia” (45th in 2015), and “Wasn’t That Drunk” with Carly Pearce (46th in 2016).

The group appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in 2016 and on “Conan” in 2017. Its single “Settle Me Down” in 2020 was certified “gold” by the Recording Industry Association of America.

The group’s top album was “Small Town Family Dream,” which peaked at fifth on Billboard’s “Top Country Albums” list in 2012. “Front Row Seat” peaked at ninth in 2015, and “Until My Voice Goes Out” peaked at 22nd in 2017.

Its most recent album is “Somewhere Down the Road,” released in January, 2024.

Saturday’s opening act will be six-member Southall, a country rock band from Stillwater associated with Oklahoma “red dirt” music.

Friday’s lineup June 6 will include Abilene-native country singer Dallas Pryor; four-member Kansas group Steel Skarecrow, which features “red dirt,” rock ’n’ roll, and Western swing music; and the Moundridge-based Sam Shilts Trio, featuring a member of last year’s Chingawassa Days Petty Cash tribute band from McPherson.

Admission will be free for children 10 and younger. Buttons cost $36, including a processing fee, and are available at chingawassadays.com.
