CHS public speaking team wins district

A public speaking team of Centre FFA students placed first Friday in the South Central District Leadership School and Public Speaking Career Development Events at Arkansas City.

Kevin Lewis placed first in extemporaneous public speaking and qualified for state competition in May. Carrie Carlson placed third in the senior division of prepared public speaking and also qualified for state competition in May. Cassidy Hill placed 10th.

In the junior division, Kevin Lewis placed third and Karl Riffel placed eighth. In the sophomore division, Tabitha Oborny placed second and Nellie Kassebaum placed sixth. Kailyn Riffel also competed. In the freshmen division, Kyle Riffel placed eighth.

Leadership

Centre placed sixth overall in leadership competition. The greenhand parliamentary procedure team of Courtney Hett (chair), Taylor Peterson, Nathaniel Engler, Kaleb Collett, Tyler Bentz and Adam Makovec placed fifth. The greenhand ritual team placed sixth. The senior par-law team of Nellie Kassebaum (chair), Carrie Carlson, Makenzie Deines, Bryanna Svoboda, Tom Oborny and Ty Simons placed fifth, and the senior ritual team placed ninth. The FFA information test team placed sixth. Participating in creed were Adam Makovec and Kyle Riffel.
