City already has 8 applicants for development post

News editor

Marion City Administrator Roger Holter told Marion Economic Development Inc. board members Tuesday morning that the city has received eight applications for the economic development position Holter held until his recent promotion.

He said three of the applicants were qualified for the job. The city will continue accepting applications until interviews are scheduled mid-January, he said. Holter is seeking volunteers for a panel to interview candidates.

Todd Heitschmidt said Ace Hardware is aiming for a Feb. 1 opening. Holter said the company is taking applications for a store manager, who will then make other hires for the store. Ace has already ordered merchandise for the store.

Board members also discussed ways to improve the average home quality in Marion.

The next MEDI meeting at 6:45 a.m. Jan. 21 will include election of officers.
