Marion City Council approved a 45-day period to allow new landowners to demolish a derelict building at 700 N. Cedar St.
Bryan Grosse and Chris Helmer purchased the property from Pat Bernhardt and signed an agreement to demolish the building on Nov. 19.
However, the council also approved a move to encumber $5,400 to pay Dalke Construction to go forward with demolition if there is no action from Grosse and Helmer. Council members acknowledged there might be delays based on weather or completed paper work, but that those issues could be addressed when they arise.
City Administrator Doug Kjellin said Dalke Construction, of Hillsboro, was the only company to bid for the project, which they did on Nov. 15.
