City spends $340 on clothes

Staff writer

Marion this week approved spending $340 on city-branded clothing for two employees who work in city hall’s front office.

City treasurer and utility billing clerk Becky Makovec and municipal court clerk Sandy Scheele ordered the items from Western Associates.

City council member Ruth Herbel asked about the purchase Monday when reviewing bills paid by the city.

Makovec said she and Scheele hadn’t received city-branded clothing since 2017 and wanted to professionally represent the city when people came to city hall.

Ordered were a fleece jacket, fleece blazer, a cardigan, a polo shirt, a “scorecard” T-shirt, and a “cocoon” sweater.

Community enrichment director Margo Yates said she had never received city-branded clothing.

If she’d been asked, she said, “I would have said, ‘Thanks, but no thanks’ because I’m retiring next year.”

Other city employees received city-branded clothing annually, Makovec said.
