The Marion High School class of 1963 will have its 50-year reunion Old Settlers’ Day weekend, Sept. 27 and 28.
Organizers expect to have 35 of the 43 graduates, along with other students who were part of the class at earlier grade levels, at the Historic Elgin Hotel Bed and Breakfast. Organizers also have heard from nine past teachers who will attend the reunion.
Plans for the weekend include:
- Sept. 27 dinner at Don Stenzel’s farm home.
- Breakfast at 8 a.m. Sept. 28 at the Elgin.
- Riding in the parade at 11 a.m. Sept. 28.
- Lunch after the parade in Central Park.
- Class introductions at 2 p.m. at the park gazebo.
- Dinner at 6 p.m. at the Elgin. There will also be an audio/video presentation including elementary school operettas, junior/senior plays, sports teams, organizations, music groups, and junior/senior banquet and prom photos, as well as an In Memoriam section.
The class donated $3,000 to the Marion Advancement Campaign.
Class of 1953
The class of 1953 will celebrate its 60-year reunion, beginning with coffee and doughnuts at 9 a.m. Sept. 28 at Ronald Herbel’s home, 611 S. Freeborn St.
The class will ride in the parade at 11 a.m., eat dinner in Central Park, and participate in the program at the gazebo at 2 p.m.

Previously reported reunions
Class of 1943
The class of 1943 will celebrate its 70th anniversary of graduation on Old Settlers’ Day, Sept. 28.
Class members wishing to ride in the parade will meet at 10 a.m. at the home of Jean Pierce, 303 Locust St. Those not wishing to ride will meet at 11 a.m. in Central Park.
After the parade, the group will gather in the park for lunch together. At 2 p.m., they will join other classes at the gazebo for introductions. Pierce is inviting classmates to her home afterward if they wish to rest and visit longer.
Class of 1948
The class of 1948 plans for this, its 65-year reunion, to be its final reunion. The class will meet at 6 p.m. Sept. 27 at Hilltop Manor, 1501 Lawrence St., for pizza. Coffee, juice, and rolls will be available at 9 a.m. Sept. 28 at Marion Senior Center, then class members will ride in the parade.
Lunch will be in Central Park, and the class will be recognized at 2:30 p.m. in the park. A catered meal will be served at 6:30 p.m. at the senior center. Reservations are $16 per person and can be mailed to Loyette Swanson, 1509 W. Maplewood St., Springfield, MO 65807.
