Co-op forges new alliance

Three months after a marketing alliance of six area grain cooperatives was dissolved, Cooperative Grain and Supply in Hillsboro is joining a different marketing alliance.
Jerry Finske, executive officer for the cooperative, said CG&S would become a member of CoMark Equity Alliance on Feb. 1.
CoMark, with offices in Cheney and Enid, Oklahoma, has 28 member cooperatives across Kansas, Oklahoma, and the Texas panhandle.
Farmers Cooperative Elevator Co. in Halstead, also a former member of the dissolved alliance, already has joined CoMark.
Finske said he was looking forward to the co-op becoming a CoMark member and believed the move would be good for members.
CoMark Equity Alliance began in 2017.
Arbitrators ordered the previous alliance dissolved in September after arbitration of a lawsuit filed a year ago. In that lawsuit, CG&S, Farmers Cooperative Elevator Co. in Halstead, and Central Prairie Co-op in Sterling disputed the fairness of the alliance’s operation.
