College officials listen to community suggestions

Partnership between Marion schools and Butler Community College may bring a new program to the area.

Eight community college representatives came to Marion last week for a listening tour.

Superintendent Aaron Homburg and city economic development director Randy Collett talked about benefits to the school system and community.

Homburg suggested a heating and air conditioning training program and college officials were interested.

“We’re interested in having further talks on the idea,” vice president of academics Lori Winningham said.

Collett said that training more skilled workers, such as electricians, would help the city attract new businesses.
