I’m reading a book about elephants now. I’m learning that they are much like people. They have feelings and sometimes they show anger and have unintentionally killed trainers. They are jealous, loving, and feel sorrow. They are often abused in the zoos, circuses, and shows. The babies are taken from their mothers to be trained. The mother and infant grieve and never get over it.
There used to be thousands of elephants in the wild, but the number has diminished greatly. Hunters and natives have killed them for their ivory tusks or meat.
I have ridden on an elephant, which was part of a show. They are big. One time my daughter and her boyfriend attended a small circus here in Marion. It had rained and when they went to leave their car got stuck. The boyfriend was trying to rock it back and forth to get it out. All at once, some of the workmen from the show came over with an elephant and it pushed them out.
From elephants to mice. An article in a paper tells of a man who had caught a mouse in his bedroom three times and it got away each time.
One morning the man discovered that his lower dentures were missing from the bedside table. He was just sure that the mouse had them. His son-in-law came over and found a small hole in the baseboard, so he made it larger. Inside were the dentures. The man didn’t really want to put them in his mouth, but because they were expensive, he decided to soak them in peroxide. The mouse is still free, so what will he snitch next?
