Convenience store to be open 24/7
Marion night owls won’t have to leave town to satisfy their snack cravings when Casey’s General Store expands its hours in July.
Casey’s financial analyst Sam Knezevic confirmed Friday that Marion’s store will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, starting in early to mid-July.
“We’ve had quite a bit of success converting stores to the 24-hour format,” Knezevic said. “We do it very selectively. We don’t just throw it out there and see what happens.”
Employees will be added to cover the overnight shift, Knezevic said. They likely will be paid about a dollar an hour more than day and evening shift workers, he said.
Since undergoing an extensive remodeling last year, the Hillsboro Caseys has been open 24/7. Knezevic said that store’s performance could have influenced the choice to expand hours in Marion.
“We look at a lot of factors where we have success, like Hillsboro, and that could definitely play a part,” he said.
Fresh food items like pizza generally aren’t part of the late night mix, which is geared for gasoline sales and off-the-shelf purchases, Knezevic said.
