Doris Winkler of Marion was a guest Monday of Darlene Gutsch. On her holiday from work, she came out to help her sister clean- out many nooks and crannies of her house and to help throw away all those things packrats like me save.
Larry Peterson of Granby, Colo., brought Neva Peterson of Salina to her home Thursday at Burdick. He will return Tuesday morning to his home in Colorado. Candice Deneault and Neva Peterson returned Sunday evening to Salina. Neva reported she and Candice attended Hebron Lutheran Church services Sunday morning.
Darlene Gutsch visited Marilyn Hageberg Tuesday and ran some errands for her.
Burdick United Methodist Women met Jan. 21 at Burdick United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall with nine members in attendance. Devotions about technology were given by Karen Carlson, a lesson about prayer and self-denial by Ruth Ann Carlson, and refreshments were served by Diana Jost. Those in attendance were Karen Carlson, Susan Carlson, Ruth Ann Carlson, Darlene Gutsch, Diana Jost, Lee Shade, Janet Matz, Ruth Riggin, and Jean Ecklund. New program books were distributed. The next meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 18. Devotions will be given by Janet Matz, lesson by Diana Jost, and refreshments by Linda Peterson.
Evelyn Forsberg was a Monday dinner guest of Harry Schump at Herington. In the afternoon, they visited Earl and Ruth Schump.
Lois Peterson and Jim Peterson’s birthdays were celebrated Wednesday with supper at Lost Springs. Those attending were Roger Peterson, Rolland Peterson, Gene and Marie Thorton, Steve Thorton of Abilene, Mary Deane Peterson, and Ruth Riggin.
Dean Forsberg was a Tuesday and Wednesday dinner guest of Evelyn Forsberg.
Mary Deane Peterson accompanied Marvin Peterson Thursday evening to a basketball game at Wakefield. Josie Peterson played on the Centre team, and playe in the tournament. Mary Deane and Sara Denly of Winfield attended the game Friday night with Marvin. The Centre team took third place Saturday in the tournament.
Linnea Barlow was a Thursday afternoon visitor of Evelyn Forsberg.
Some of those visiting Neva Peterson and her houseguests this weekend were Jack Riggin, Ruth Riggin, Glenn and Sandy Carlson, Katie and Andy, and Katie’s friend, Daniel. Jack and Nancy Riggin were Sunday afternoon guests.
Al and Lee Shade hosted an Extreme Makeover – Chapman party Sunday evening at their home, watching the television program on a big screen TV. Those attending were Linda Basore, Allie and Kate Basore, Carla Engler, Nathaniel and Samantha, Janet Matz, and Ronnie and Susan Carlson.
Phil Peterson was a lay minister Sunday at Burdick Hebron Lutheran Church in the absence of Pastor Bill Peterson. He also presented special music. There was a soup dinner after church. The annual church meeting followed in the afternoon.
Harry Schump of Herington and Evelyn Forsberg were Saturday supper guests of Jane Rickenbrode, Wade and Morgan at Council Grove.
Walt and Katherine Otte took Lois Peterson to lunch noon Thursday at a restaurant at the airport to celebrate her birthday.
Members of Burdick United Methodist Church and others gathered Wednesday afternoon and evening to move pews and other items out of the sanctuary to the Fellowship Hall. Old, red carpet was removed and the floor was prepared for the laying of new carpet. Some of those helping were Pastor Jay J. Beck of Junction City, Clint Jost, James Jost, Roger Will, Steve Matz, Adam Matz, Jack Riggin, Tim Biehler, Gene Ecklund, Karen Biehler, Janet Matz, John Garrard, Diana Jost, Brian Burhoop, and Kordell Harding. Refreshments were served by Burdick Meat Market and others.
Sunday afternoon visitors of Jim and Marilyn Peterson were Mike Peterson and Kasey and Lyndon, Matt and Jamie Dalke, Reghan and Tyler of Lindsborg, and Lois Peterson.
Evelyn Forsberg hosted an early birthday dinner noon Sunday to celebrate Harry Schump’s 80th birthday, which was Wednesday. Guests were Dean Forsberg, Jane Rickenbrode, Wade and Morgan, and Willie Hicks. Mary Deane Peterson was an afternoon visitor. Savannah Forsberg was a late afternoon guest.
Perry Gutsch was a Saturday morning visitor of Darlene Gutsch. He was helping her with a heating problem.
Please keep the family of Robert “Bob” Price of Atlanta, Ga., in your thoughts and prayers at his death, his wife, Marjorie (Hageberg) Price, and children Carolyn, Becky, and Robert. Graveside services are pending.

Neva Peterson and Candace Denault of Salina visited Maurine Johnson and Evelyn Carlson Jan. 11, at Bethany Home, Lindsborg. They reported they had a lot of news to catch up on.
Darlene visited with Marilyn Hageberg and Linda Basore Tuesday morning.
Thursday afternoon visitors of Darlene Gutsch were Charles’ cousin Patricia Morgan of American Canyon, Calif., and her daughter and grandson, Marla Morgan and Ben Ward of Napa, Calif. They were here to attend the 100th birthday party of Bertha Harrison Jan. 14 at the Holiday Resort in Emporia. Some of the relatives attending were Laura Edwards of Herington, Lyle Krause of Lincolnville, Roy Gottstein of McPherson, and Joyce Fischer of Wichita. The Morgans boarded a plan Friday morning at Kansas City for their flight back to California. While they were here, we visited, shared family history, and Ben took pictures. Pat and her mother had lived here when she was a youngster.
Darlene Gutsch attended a 17th birthday party Saturday evening for Shelby Deines that was hosted by Jeff and Gayla Deines and Justin at their home. Snacks, birthday cake, and ice cream were served and Shelby opened her gifts. Others in attendance were Jessica Deines, Samantha Coup of Manhattan, Bryant Brunner of Ramona, Dustin Burnett of Hillsboro, Debbie Coup of Hope, Merv and Leona Deines, Terry and Julie Deines, McKenzie, Dillon, and Carlie, Perry Gutsch and Anthony, and Rosemary Deines and her daughter, Kristina, and her children, Macy and Morgan of Herington.
Many from the area attended a soup supper and bingo benefit Saturday evening at the Burdick United Methodist Church. The Burdick Relay for Life team sponsored the event with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. These people are to be commended for their hard work for such a good cause.
Ruth Riggin met her daughter, Julie Sader of Salina, Sunday in Herington. They had dinner together. Julie came back to Ruth’s home after dinner for a visit.
Forrest and Marie Anderson attended a soup luncheon Sunday after an event sponsored by a youth group of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
