St. Luke Living Center correspondent
The living center bakers mixed up peanut-raisin crunch cookies, another recipe from the 1978 Knights of Kansas cookbook. As we examined the book more closely this week, Ruby was surprised to see that one of the book’s committee members was her cousin, Harold Prochaskas’ wife, Ava.
Our bingo caller, Lois Winter didn’t feel like “testing the water” Friday afternoon and wisely stayed home. With Bill Schimpf’s help we had a good time anyway and awarded many winners. We hope Lois knows we issued her a “rain check.”
Pastor Phil Smith of Valley United Methodist Church was our pastor Sunday afternoon. He brought the sacraments and served communion to those who wished to partake.
After spending Monday morning doing a little pretty-up for a lot of “takers,” we spent a nice part of the afternoon enjoying Alex Stuchlik and his accordion music. There was audience participation with some duets and even a little dancing.
“Showtime” was set for 3 p.m. to make sure the pitch players and Marie would be played out and could attend.
We used some mental muscle Tuesday morning when we played “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?” It was decided this class would be promoted to the third grade after naming four of the four continents beginning with the letter A. Actually we named five, but America doesn’t count.
That afternoon during book club we finished the delightful second chapter of “Rascal.” Especially entertaining were the struggles between the young raccoon and Pal the Crow over any bright, shiny object.
Prayer group Wednesday morning was in the capable hands of Shirley Bowers, Ruth Viets, and May as they filled in for Dick Pracht. We really love “those dear hearts and gentle people.”
Shirley was back again Thursday morning for her regular hymn sing slot and our little chapel was nearly full.
Our outing Thursday really was an outing. Agnes, Ruth, Betty, Pearl, Ruby, Melvin, volunteer Joann Fitzpatrick, Cindy, and Sue had lunch at a Chinese buffet restaurant in McPherson. Some even topped the excursion off with drive-through soft drinks and ice cream cones before starting for home.
