This past Friday morning, the Living Center bakers chose a recipe for oatmeal-banana cookies found on an oatmeal box. Given choices we used brown sugar rather than white sugar and nuts in lieu of raisins. We’re planning to be experimental and make the recipe using raisins, or as Amelia suggested, chocolate chips.

We sent an SOS Thursday evening and Pat Smith came to our rescue the next afternoon to call bingo on very short notice. She brought more of that delicious-looking apple cake to share and at “half-time,” led us as we sang four fun verses of “My Darling Clementine.”

Saturday was one of Gene Vinduska’s days to serenade us and that’s just what he and his accordion did. We always enjoy the morning’s “polka hour.”

Marie Navrat kept her date with the pitch players after lunch Monday and later Shirley Bowers was here to lead us in an old-fashioned sing-along.

Before, after, and in-between suds, trims, curlers, and styling Tuesday morning, Bonnie Plummer decorated the little Boo-T-Shop with orange and black cats, wreaths, jack-o-lanterns, and sparkling ropes.

In the afternoon, the hospital auxiliary was represented this month by Betty Snelling and Lois Johnson who brought meat and cheese wraps, chocolate chip cookies, and rice krispy bars which had crumbled chocolate cookies in them. The table was covered with a cloth of pretty fall colors and tea-light candles.

Dick Pracht was back Wednesday morning for prayer group and Lydia provided piano music for hymns.

We were in need of a van driver that afternoon to chauffeur our outing group and Al Ash didn’t blink an eye before saying, “yes.” The drive took us around the east side of Marion Reservoir and through residential side streets. We were amazed at the quiet beauty of the water, the many birds, and the lovely yellowing color of the trees.

Shirley Bowers was back again Thursday morning to play as we sang hymns. She not only accompanied on the piano, but also with her nice voice.

In the afternoon, we worked on again “coloring fall” and have our artwork exhibited on the large corkboard on 400 hall. Our race with Mother Nature may have been a photo-finish.
