CORRESPONDENTS: Marion Senior Center

A one-day food giveaway was held at the center Aug. 4. Fruit, corn, and potatoes were available for anyone coming to the center on a first come, first serve basis. The food was provided by the Kansas Food Bank in Wichita.

A photo and note were received one day from former resident Pauline Edmunds. She now lives in Oklahoma and would like to hear from her Marion friends.

The Kansas Children’s Service League is asking knitters and crocheters for newborn baby caps made of purple yarn. They will be collected through October and will be given to Kansas newborns in November as part of a campaign to prevent shaken baby syndrome/infant abuse.

Janice Waner brought in cherry tomatoes and pumpkins to share from the community garden in Florence.

A program was presented Aug. 10 by the women of the Dorcas Soceity of Our Savior Lutheran Church. They demonstrated making sleeping mats from plastic bags. These mats will be sent to Haiti and other places. Demonstrators were Lois Johnson, Irma Meisinger, Ruth Lange, LaVaughn Klose, and Marlene Bernhardt.

A new shipment of greeting cards has arrived and is ready for sale.

Shirley Bowers and Shirley Moore are new attendants at the reservation table. They also prepare each day’s bank deposit.

Come join us at 10 a.m. Saturday for brunch. This is another makeup meal for snow-day meal cancellations in February.

Sue Clough and Shirley Bowers will provide a singalong for entertainment.
