Marion Senior Center said goodbye April 13 to Andrea Schadel, who had been the center’s head cook since the beginning of the year.
An efficient crew of volunteers unloaded and bagged food commodities for distribution April 12. Gary and Karen Chaput picked up the commodities from Council Grove. When they returned, Clayton and Wanda Hamm, Shirley Moore, Evelyn Jewett, Fred Puttroff, Harold Conyers, Sue Clough, and Val Morgan helped prepare the food for distribution.
The center had a display of Titanic items and trivia April 13, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the ship’s sinking.
Sylvia Helmer celebrated her birthday April 16 by bringing ice cream cups to the center.
Longtime Marion resident Pauline Edmunds, now of Oklahoma, called to say hello to all of her friends at the senior center.
The center’s Walk Kansas team has compiled enough miles to cross the state, 423 miles, and is working toward enough miles to cross the state again.
Senior Center Day was April 18. Senior Center President Sue Clough honored a group of volunteers for National Volunteer Week. She honored the quilters, Evelyn Jewett, Shirley Bowers, Shirley Moore, Almeda Kahns, as well as Wilma Gilmer, who makes table decorations. She also recognized Mary Hett, who has embroidered many tea towels.
Virginia Downing reported volunteer hours of tax preparers Charles Montgomery, Barb Smith, and Downing. New police officer Sarah Alam was a speaker for Senior Center Day.
